Before We Start House Hunting: Let's Talk About Your Goals

Buying a home is about more than finding the right number of bedrooms, a great kitchen, or the perfect location. It's about finding a home that fits your lifestyle, financial goals, and future plans.

When we first sit down to discuss your home search, whether you're buying in Amherst, Milford, Mont Vernon, or elsewhere in Southern New Hampshire, here are a few questions I'll ask to help guide the process.

7 Questions We'll Talk Through Before Your Home Search

  1. What's motivating your move? Are you buying your first home, looking for more space, downsizing, or purchasing an investment property?

  2. How long do you plan to stay? Is this a stepping stone or somewhere you hope to put down roots?

  3. Where do you see yourself in 5–10 years? Your future plans can influence the type of home we look for today.

  4. What does your ideal location look like? Think commute, schools, community, privacy, and lifestyle.

  5. What monthly payment feels comfortable? What you qualify for and what you're comfortable spending aren't always the same.

  6. Have you spoken with a lender? Understanding your financing options and purchasing power early can make the process much smoother.

  7. What are your must-haves versus nice-to-haves? Knowing where you're willing to compromise helps us focus on the right properties.

It's completely okay if you don't know the answers to all of these questions yet.

Part of my job is helping you work through your options, understand what's realistic, and figure out what matters most to you. The more I understand your goals, the better I can guide you through the homebuying process.
